Activities Blue Ventures Conservation is an award winning UK-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to facilitating projects that enhance global coral reef conservation and research. Since its creation Blue Ventures Conservation has co-ordinated marine projects in Madagascar, Tanzania, New Zealand, South Africa and the Comoros Islands.
Purpose Healthy coral reefs are fundamental to the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people in tropical coastal environments, as well as forming part of the crucial life support system of the biosphere. However, coral reefs world-wide are increasingly subjected to over-exploitation and to degradation by anthropogenic and natural, particularly climatic, impacts.
Blue Ventures Conservation co-ordinates teams of marine scientists and volunteers, working hand-in-hand with local biologists, marine institutes, NGOs, and communities whose livelihoods depend on coral reefs, to carry out research, environmental awareness and conservation programmes at threatened reef habitats around the world. Despite the value of our work, many of the nations we have worked with have no resources to undertake these projects themselves.
What do customers do The successes of Blue Ventures research programmes have always depended, and continue to depend, on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers. Volunteers - from all over the world and from all walks of life - work with us both above and below the water.
Overseas, volunteers are responsible for carrying out field research, as well as managing the day-to-day running of field camps.
Working as a Blue Ventures volunteer is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding experience requiring hard work and commitment.
What sort of people Blue Ventures Conservation continues to offer opportunities and field experiences, both in the UK and overseas, to volunteers wanting to become actively involved in marine conservation. Our teams are made up of dynamic, enthusiastic and committed volunteers, coming from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and experiences. We pride ourselves on this diversity.
