| Activities |
Earthwatch is an international conservation organisation that supports over 140 scientific research projects in ecosystems as diverse as the Jamacia's ocean and Iceland's glacial mountains.
|
| Purpose |
Earthwatch's mission is to engage people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. The results of our fieldwork on land and in the sea have included the discovery of hundreds of new species, the creation of numerous new national parks and the collection of data leading to better-informed conservation decisions.
|
| What do customers do |
On an Earthwatch expedition you can expect: wonder, sweat, camaraderie, blisters, discovery, dirt, exhiliration and a sense of purpose! Our expeditions are not tours - they are ongoing research projects. For example, on our Jamaican Coral Reef project you will assist scientists by learning to identify 11 species of large coral while underwater, as well as many other colorful coral reef denizens, and to measure and film them. This project requires volunteers to have a basic SCUBA qualification. No other training or experience is needed for any of our other projects. Other popular marine expeditions that include snorkelling are: studying Manatees in Belize, Sharks in Madagascar and Turtles in the Bahamas.

| What sort of people |
Earthwatch volunteers are a fascinating and extremely diverse group of people of all ages. All share a similar spirit of interest and excitement when it comes to conservation.
