| Activities |
Global Vision International specialises in providing overseas conservation projects and teaching placements to the general public.
|
| Purpose |
Global Vision International promotes sustainable solutions for a rapidly changing world by matching the general public with international environmentalists, researchers and pioneering educators.
Global Vision International's Research Expeditions support and assist the work of local NGO's, government groups, international NGO's and universities. GVI is currently working on coral reef and marine wildlife research programmes in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, in Egypt and on Silhouette Island in the Seychelles.
|
| What do customers do |
Previous diving experience, marine survey or foreign language skills are not required as certain expeditions run a comprehensive training programme designed to give Volunteers all the skills necessary for expedition life. Some of the work which is carried out by the volunteers includes (depending on which site you are working at:
- Coral Reef and Fish monitoring surveys
- Pioneering land and sea based acoustic and visual marine mammal surveys.
- Crocodile nesting surveys.
- Sea turtle nesting surveys.
- Whale Shark monitoring and surveys
- Foreign tree species (Casuarine Pine) clearing.
- Training local fishermen and guides in English Language, diving and survey techniques to aid sustainable development
- Developing the expedition base as an Ecological Research and Awareness Centre and a Children's Education Centre.
- Assisting in the education and awareness programmes at local schools, hotels, the expedition base and in the open environment.
Most Volunteers spend the majority of their time diving upon the coral reef, collecting characterisation and monitoring identification and abundance data on invertebrates and fish species. Survey dives will be conducted 2 to 3 times a day, 5 days a week, but the group will be split and volunteers will rotate between projects to maximise enthusiasm and minimise ear problems. Volunteers should expect 6-8 dives per week.
|
| What sort of people |
Global Vision volunteers come from all over the world, different backgrounds, nationalities and ages. The minimum age is 18 and there is no upper age restriction, though all volunteers must be fit, enthusiastic and in excellent health.
|
| Cost: |
From £1350 for five weeks.
|
| Where do you operate |
GVI marine expeditions currently take place in Mexico, Egypt and the Seychelles.
|
| Other information |
GVI is running an exciting new concept on its Marine Expedition called a Volunteer Internship. Upon completion of a 10 week GVI Marine Expedition, one Volunteer will be selected to join the expedition for a second term of 10 weeks at no personal cost. The chosen Volunteer will be selected based on the merits of enthusiasm, personal achievement, commitment to the project and the community.
