Thank you Undersea Explorer

Pedro Vieyra winner of the 2004 BSAC Travel Club Underwater Photographic Competition has just returned from The Great Barrier Reef trip sponsored by Undersea Explorer.

Pedro Said "Thank you for a fabulous trip. Due to good weather conditions we were able to dive virgin sites at Osprey and the outer wall reefs. In general the coral was in excellent condition. Although there was evidence of cyclone damage in some areas, fish population seemed to be thriving and this is in considerable measure due to the efforts over the years of John Rumney (General manager of Undersea) in establishing conservation zones to protect the Barrier reef."

The Undersea Explorer is based in Port Douglas in Queensland Australia and the team run scientific trips to the Barrier Reef.

The Underseas research activities include minke whales, sharks, octopus, nautilus, fluorescent corals, water quality and coral spawning “We also benefited from interesting talks on marine biology topics a highlight was the dissection of a Crown of Thorns starfish. “

All in all we were deeply impressed with the work that Undersea were undertaking and it was a privilege to be on board and be part of of it all. If anyone is interested in finding out more checkout www.undersea.com.au

It is always difficult to do justice to the trip and the stunning corals and fish life. Here are a few of Pedros favorite shots…
