BSAC UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION 2008

ENTRIES ARE NOW INVITED FOR BSAC UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION 2008
All entries must be submitted via the photographic section of the BSAC Travel website.

This popular competition is now in its fourth year. The award, which is open to divers from all agencies, will be run as follows:

a) Open Award (Photographer of the Year 2008)
This category is open to all photographers and entries must be of underwater photographs. Photographers are invited to be creative and imaginative, although the judges will also take account of the criteria specified in the Rules.

b) Newcomer's Award (Newcomer of the Year 2008)
It is intended that this category should be open only to relative beginners to underwater photography and is for underwater photographs taken using compact digital cameras only. Even if you have never won any competition, you should not enter this category if you have been an underwater photographer for several years, or use your photography (whether or not underwater) in any professional capacity. Anyone who has won any award at any level in a photographic competition is barred from entry irrespective of experience. The category is therefore open to those able and willing to make a declaration that they are inexperienced photographers, do not use photographs in any professional capacity and have not previously regularly entered any photographic competitions. The judges may review entries in this section and, if in their absolute opinion, they consider the photographer is not a relative beginner, he or she will be eliminated. If you are uncertain about whether you are eligible to enter this category, please send details of your experience for an eligibility ruling to the judges whose contact details you will find at the bottom of the Rules.

c) Monthly Awards
Each month six photos, three from each category, will be selected, designated "Great Shots" and published in the Great Shots Gallery on the BSAC Travel website. All six Great Shots each month, a total of 72 in all (3 from each category each month), will go forward to the final judging for the Annual Awards
The photographer of each Great Shot will receive a certificate from the British Sub-Aqua Club.

d) Annual Awards
The judges will select the photograph which in their opinion is the best Great Shot submitted during the year from each category.
The person who has taken the best Great Shot in the Open Category will become the Photographer of the Year 2008.
The person who has taken the best Great Shot in the Newcomers category will become the Newcomer of the Year 2008.

e) Prizes
Monthly
The photographer of each Great Shot will receive a certificate from the British Sub-Aqua Club.
The winners of the monthly competition in each category will receive a £20 BSAC Shop voucher.
Annual
The Photographer of the Year will win a framed certificate from the British Sub-Aqua Club and a trip for two to the Seychelles for 5 nights including a 6 dive package with Big Blue divers on Mahé. Sponsored by Seychelles Tourist Board, in association with Paradise Sun Hotel, Masons Travel and Air Seychelles worth £3000
Second Prize in the open Section is a voucher for £300 from Cameras Underwater.

The Newcomer of the Year will win a trophy, a framed certificate from the British Sub-Aqua Club and a Tony Backhurst Scuba Travel "Get Wrecked" holiday for two aboard Typhoon luxury liveaboard in the Red Sea worth £2100.
