BSAC TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION - 2008
Rules

1) Entries for the Award are open to all visitors to the BSAC Travel website, irrespective of dive training agency, except for the judges named below and anyone directly involved in running this competition.

2)
a) Open Award
This category is open to all photographers and entries must be of underwater photographs. Photographers are invited to be creative and imaginative, although the judges will also take account of the criteria detailed below in point 8.

b) Newcomer's Award
This category is open only to relative beginners to underwater photography and is for underwater photographs only. Even if you have never won any competition, you should not enter this category if you have been an underwater photographer for several years, or use your photography (whether or not underwater) in any professional capacity. Anyone who has won any award at any level in a photographic competition is barred from entry irrespective of experience. The category is therefore open to those able and willing to make a declaration that they are inexperienced photographers, do not use photographs in any professional capacity and have not previously regularly entered any photographic competitions. The judges may review entries in this section and, if in their absolute opinion, they consider the photographer is not a relative beginner, he or she will be eliminated. If you are uncertain about whether you are eligible to enter this category, please send details of your experience for an eligibility ruling to the judges whose contact details you will find at the bottom of these Rules

3) Entries must be submitted via the BSAC Travel Club website only. This means they must be scanned or otherwise set in digital format.
a)All photographs must be submitted in JPEG format (other formats e.g. bitmap, GIF are not acceptable).
b)Maximum size to be 500 pixels high or wide (about 250k file size).
c) You MUST RENAME YOUR PHOTOS to include your name and a number indicating your entry order. For example, if you enter 3 photos each month, the first month they could be jsmith1.jpg, jsmith2.jpg, jsmith3.jpg. The next month they would be jsmith4.jpg, jsmith5.jpg, jsmith6.jpg. This allows us to avoid misidentifying or misallocating your photos. Do not include capital letters, spaces, or any other characters in your file names.
Monthly or Annual prize winners may be requested to provide higher definition shots for publication or publicity purposes where it is necessary as part of the final judging process.

4) BSAC reserves the right to publish and use the photos for an indefinite period anywhere on its websites or in respect of promotion of the BSAC Travel Club or this Photographic Award, but always with due credit to the photographer. By entering photos to the competition you confirm that you own the copyright for all photos submitted. As no payment is offered, copyright will remain with the photographer.

5) Six entries from those submitted each month, three from each category, will be selected by the BSAC Travel Club Photography Correspondent (Tony Baskeyfield) and will be designated "Great Shots".

6) The six Great Shots each month will be published in the Great Shots Gallery on the BSAC Travel Club website and remain accessible on the site for at least two years.

7) Each photographer may submit no more than three entries each month. A photograph may be submitted once only. A photograph will be entered automatically into the Open Category unless the photographer makes the declaration that they are an inexperienced photographer and have not previously regularly entered any photographic competitions. The judges reserve the right to ask for details of the photographer's experience and may rule ineligible for the Newcomers Category anyone who, in their view and at their absolute discretion, has considerable experience.

8) The following key criteria will be used when judging entries for monthly or annual awards:
* Overall photographic effect
* Technical merit
* Originality
* Artistic impression

9) Entries, must be by made via the on-line entry form and must give the photographer's name and contact details, dive qualification, identify the subject and give location and date of photo (month & year). All photographs submitted by the last day of the month will be judged during the next month and the selection will published on the Travel Club website as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the month following. Entries will open in March 2008 and this will therefore be the first month judged. The competition will continue monthly thereafter until and including December 2008.

10) All Great Shots will go forward for formal judging by a panel who will select the BSAC Travel Club Photographer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. The judges for 2008 will be Tony Baskeyfield (BSAC Travel Club Photography Correspondent), David Dixon (BSAC Travel Club Co-ordinator, who shall be Chairman of the judges), Charles Hood (International photographer and writer, the Independent Judge) and Mary Tetley (BSAC Operations Manager).In the event of a tie in judging, the Chairman shall consult the judges and decide the winning entry on the basis of which entry would best represent BSAC Travel Club.

11) A certificate will be awarded to each entrant submitting a photograph assessed to be a "Great Shot".

The Photographer of the Year will win a framed certificate from the British Sub-Aqua Club and a trip for two to the Seychelles for 5 nights including a 6 dive package with Big Blue divers on Mahé.
