Tony Baskeyfield, Travel Club's Photography Correspondent, wins latest award
Here is Tony Baskeyfield's winning pic from Britain's newest dive show "Go Diving". It is part of the Ordinance Survey Outdoors Show held at the NEC 18-20 March 2005.
The competition was run in association with Dive magazine and was themed 'My Favourite Dive'. Judged by Arctic Encounters adventurer Graham Dickson
"We had waited for two days drifting off the island of Catalina California, chumming the water for blue sharks. Joey the deck hand had just thrown up into the steaming chum bucket after chopping rotten mackerel heads and mixing it up with fish oil.
Then this Mako arrived. Swimming around the boat very quickly. Mako is the fastest of the sharks and can swim up to 60 Kmh.
I grabbed my camera and slipped into the water and got the shot as the Mako came in again and took the bait.
'I'd give my right arm for a great pic of a shark'
This was my motivating thought. Not literally but I had a little joke with myself as the Mako bit my camera as it passed me."
Tony also took first place in the recent BSoUP Focus On – Best of 2004 competition.
