Snorkelling at Kenmore Point, Loch Fyne
by Carol Reid
Kenmore Point, Loch Fyne is an excellent place to go snorkelling.
We usually reach the site after launching the boat at the Caravan Site near Inverary. Click Here to see their website.
Charge for launching RIB is £5
It's possible to reach the site without a boat but it's a rough forestry track - OK if the ground is dry but treacherous if there has been much rain.
It's a 5 min boat ride to Kenmore Point where there is a rocky beach.
There are also some good dive sites nearby for the Divers in the Club eg Stallion Rock.
We base ourselves at the beach, ideal for BBQs, and then there are two areas where we can snorkel either to the left or the right of the beach.
Visibility can be quite good and there are plenty of crabs, starfish and sea urchins as well as a few fish - last time there I spotted a pipefish hiding in the weed.
Watch out, though, for the lionsmane jelly fish!
Added to the fun of snorkelling, there is a rock which the children were thrilled to be able to jump into the water from a height of about 3m. Care should be taken and the children carefully supervised here.
