Florida

The diving is pure Caribbean but the Keys are as American as mom's apple pie. There are two hundred islands and islets in the Florida Keys and 30 of them are linked in a long chain from the mainland that is known as U.S. 1 or the Overseas Highway. This sometimes spectacular drive takes you over 180 miles to Key West along a route littered with dive shops that advertise the riches of the waters just offshore. Visibility averages around 80 feet but can be in excess of 120. There are well established marine parks that have allowed the reefs to thrive and the fish to grow abundant.
You can dive coral reefs that are the equal of many further south in the Caribbean and you can dive the very many wrecks that have come to grief on this coast. The diving itself offers something for everyone from the the casual holiday diver to the deeply technical advanced diver looking for a real challenge.
The food and accommodation are plentiful and range from basic to absolute luxury.
The weather is truly tropical so watch out for summer and autumn storms.

Worldwise:
There are a lot of dive stores operating in the Florida Keys. Do your research and pick one that offers the type of diving you require. Check the number of divers carried on the boat and avoid the "cattle boat" syndrome.
