The Middle East & the Red Sea
The Middle East is a melting-pot of cultures where three continents meet. The size and diversity of the area make it difficult to characterise, but from the barren deserts of Saudi Arabia to the futuristic cityscapes of Dubai and Beirut, travellers will be beguiled and enthralled by the abundance of history, excellent food, awe-inspiring sites and welcoming locals to be found in the immense region.
For the diver, the possibilities for discovery are many and varied. While most divers visiting the Middle East will find themselves diving in the Red Sea, there are also the waters of the Arabian and Mediterranean Seas, and The Gulf to explore. Above-water, no matter what style of holiday you are seeking, you are sure to find it. Visit the pyramids of Egypt, go shopping in Dubai or party ’til dawn in Tel Aviv – or climb Mount Sinai, sand-ski in Qatar or float in the Dead Sea, the lowest point of the Earth’s surface.
Recent events in the Middle East have made many travellers wary about visiting the region. Although it is advisable to check travel warnings before travel, don’t be deterred from visiting the Middle East altogether. Those travellers who do visit find not only one of the most incredible, but one of the most welcoming and hospitable destinations in the world.
